To make a canvas begin by fitting 4 stretcher bars together to form a rectangular frame and tapping the sides with a hammer to make sure the corners are firmly joined.

Make sure you also get around the sides of your frame.
Next cut a piece of canvas down the the size of the frame with enough of a border to fold over the edges.
Find one that is the same length width and depth of your canvas.
If you did add another coat.
Enough to frame the canvas on all sides i used 2 8 ft pine boards 1 x3 board long enough to go the width of the frame once miter saw wood glue and glue brush 90 degree position squares combination square spring clamps nail gun wood filler planer orbital sander stain of your choice playing cards.
The standard frame sizes are 8 10 11 14 16 20 18 24 20 24 24 30 and 30 40 but some stores will have other sizes like 10 20.
If your canvas depth is thicker adjust the width of the frame or the depth of the cradle.
Also if you prefer the look of a floating frame make longer cuts to adjust for the floated space between the canvas and the frame.
Take the canvas out in the sun to make sure it is a nice uniform application without bare spots you might have missed.
Then do another coat with strokes in the opposite direction.
